Hi, I’m Minna – a designer based in the Alps with 20 years of international experience, having worked with iconic brands like Nike and Salomon. My background in engineering and passion for sports led me to specialize in functional fashion, including apparel and CMF design. I have a deep curiosity for research and trend forecasting, which fuels my creative process.
Born in the rugged landscapes of northern Finland, where I competed in cross-country skiing, I have a personal connection to outdoor sports that shapes my approach to design. This background allows me to empathize deeply with athletes and users—an essential aspect of creating performance-driven products.
My passion for learning has led me to pursue studies in Sustainable Fashion Management and Design Business Management, enabling me to take a holistic approach to design. By merging insights from product and service design, I aim to create forward-thinking solutions that are both functional and enduring. Most recently, I’ve expanded my expertise into footwear design, a field that continues to inspire and challenge me.
I enjoy outdoor sports, exploring new cultures, creative cooking, and gardening, which fuel my creativity and learning. My combined professional experience, passion for outdoor activities, and commitment to sustainable innovation drive my design philosophy. I excel in managing collaborative projects and fostering respectful communication across teams.

My Design Process
Understanding the Context/Brief: Initially, I assess the project's scope and apply relevant past experiences to the new context. This stage involves empathizing with the user to understand their pain points and the problems that need solving.
Gathering User Insights: I focus on uncovering the functional and psychological needs of the user, delving into how their personality can offer insights into the design.
Inspiration Collection: My sources of inspiration are diverse, ranging from architecture and nature to abstract elements like books, films, mythology, and dreams. I consider various trends: social, material, technological, sustainability, and design.
Creating a Mood Board: This draft organizes key ideas, images, and words that capture the essence of the inspiration and direction for the project.
Drawing Ideas: This phase is about freeing the subconscious to sketch preliminary ideas, allowing creative thoughts to flow onto paper.
Selecting the Best Ideas: I refine these sketches, focusing on materials, structures, and technologies. This step involves taking risks and making assumptions to shape the final design.
Prototyping: Building a prototype brings the selected ideas into a tangible form.
Testing: Rigorous testing of the prototype ensures it meets practical needs and holds up in real-world scenarios.
Iterative Process: The design is refined through iterations based on testing feedback until the concept is validated.
Between each step, I incorporate moments of reflection—taking a walk, sleeping on it, or engaging in another relaxing activity. These breaks are crucial for creative insights and help in reassessing ideas with a fresh perspective. While this outlines an ideal process, in reality, the flow is often more fluid. Inspiration might strike unexpectedly, perhaps during a film or a walk in nature. Similarly, when I cook, the process starts with the ingredients available and evolves spontaneously, usually resulting in a delightful surprise.
